Mary’s Touch Ministry—
advancing our Blessed Mother’s
“Yes”
|
|
In April 2008, the Mary’s Touch
Ministry was formed at
Emmaus Catholic Church.
This ministry extends the work of Mary’s Touch and Mary’s Touch
outreach programs to the parish level. The primary focus of
Mary’s Touch Ministry is to promote the “Mary’s Touch” radio
programs, to reach out to the poor and homeless, to provide a
forum and creative support for charities, and to assist in
planning avenues for outreach. Additionally, the Mary’s Touch
Ministry works with the Rosary Ministry in distributing handmade
Rosaries (which are available free of charge upon request).
Other activities of the ministry include organizing book
discussions, providing Mary-related lecture and discussion
information, and assisting parochial schools and faith formation
groups in accomplishing their fundraising goals.
|
|
A number of Emmaus parishioners
attended the formation meeting of the ministry, which was hosted
by Cheri Lomonte. At the meeting, she shared her story of faith
and how Mary’s Touch began. Sherry Brownrigg, executive producer
of “Mary’s Touch” radio programs then shared her story of her
husband’s battle for sobriety and how Mary’s love brought her
comfort and her husband courage during the challenges he faced
with alcoholism.
|
|
Pat Thompson is the Director for
Mary’s Touch Ministry at Emmaus Catholic Church. She brings a
wealth of experience to Mary’s Touch. She served five years as
the Director of Religious Education in parishes in the Diocese
of Houston, as well as over nine years as the Family Life
Director for the Diocese of Austin. She has been a spiritual
director for over 20 years, and she and her husband, Richard
(who also volunteers his time and talents to Mary’s Touch) have
served in premarriage and marriage ministries (including Natural
Family Planning and Engaged Encounter) for over 25 years.
|
|
Additionally, Pat has taught at
the Catholic middle school and university levels. In the private
sector, Pat served as chief executive and worked in sales and
marketing for several printing businesses. Her special talents
lie in program development and training. She is a “people
person” who loves serving our Lord and His Mother, and we are
thrilled that she has volunteered to share her gifts with Mary’s
Touch. We know we will all benefit from her experience,
expertise, and talents.

“Mary’s
Touch” Maryplayers reach out to the homeless
In an upcoming episode of “Mary’s
Touch,” Cheri and Sally interview Alan Graham, founder of
Mobile Loaves and Fishes,
a ministry that has, for the past 10 years, fed the indigent and
working poor of Austin, TX. Following the recording session, Alan
sat down with Cheri, and they continued their conversation about how
to serve the many needs of those who are less fortunate.
“The Lord sent
me to bring glad tidings to the poor, and to proclaim liberty to
captives.”
~ Luke 4:18
During their conversation, Alan
stated that because most people are uncomfortable with those who are
less fortunate, they rarely engage in contact with them, preferring
instead to avoid looking at them if they meet on the street or at
intersections. As a result, the poor and homeless are almost
invisible in our society…and just as they struggle to meet their
physical needs, the poor struggle to meet their spiritual needs,
too.
From this conversation, a plan was
hatched: Maryplayers, mp3 players with 20 “Mary’s Touch” programs, will
be distributed to the needy by Mobile Loaves and Fishes. The first
set of 100 mp3 players are due to be given out in September.
This may seem an unusual ministry for
Mary’s Touch, but we see it as a natural extension of our Blessed
Mother’s “Yes.” The
Mary’s Legacy
outreach program and Mary’s Touch Ministries are dedicated to
promoting life-giving causes. The Maryplayers program is one way we can
extend Mother Mary’s work of bringing Love into this world by
serving her Son.
There are those who may wonder why we
do this when we struggle to find funds to cover production costs for
the “Mary’s Touch” shows. Cheri Lomonte believes that we must help
others. She takes to heart Christ’s challenge:
"Simon, son of
John, do you love me more than these?"
"Yes, Lord, you
know that I love you."
"Then feed my
lambs."
~ John 21:15
“If we love Jesus,
and we say that we do, His message is clear: build my Church; take
care of each other.”
~
Father Samuel Hose
Pastor of Emmaus Parish
Austin,
TX
By the grace of God and the help of
our Blessed Mother, a generous benefactor and friend of Mary’s Touch
has donated the funds to purchase 100 mp3 players. We thank
Patty Sue for her love-filled
generosity.
We are currently searching for funds
to cover the recording costs of copying the shows to the players. If
you would like to help in these efforts or if you are interested in
expanding the Maryplayers program, please contact Cheri at
cheri@marystouch.org.

Prayer requests
We received over 300 prayer requests
in 2007.
We take each prayer request to heart.
We add them to the prayer list on the
www.marystouch.org
website, we take them to the Perpetual Adoration Chapel at the
Church of the Resurrection Emmaus Catholic Parish in Lakeway (where
someone is praying for them every single minute of every single
day), and we pray for them ourselves.
We invite you to visit the
Prayer Request page on the Mary’s Touch website (http://www.marystouch.org/Prayer
requests/Prayer requests.htm). Please pray for
those people who have submitted their requests for our prayers.
We ask, too, that you pray for us and
for Mary’s Touch. We have so many stories to share, but we are a
small nonprofit organization, and we rely on donations to do our
work.

How you
can help—a very special prayer request…
We ask you to pray for a
very special intention for Mary’s Touch.
We are directing our prayers to November 18. We also
ask that your prayers include a special petition to our Blessed
Mother that we are able to use wisely the resources and many gifts
that have been bestowed upon us by our Heavenly Father, that we
remain open to the Holy Spirit, and that we are always faithful to
Jesus and the teaching of His Holy Catholic Church.
At this time, we are earnestly
seeking funding support to cover the production costs for the shows
scheduled for recording in July. Most of our work is accomplished
through the kindness and generosity of volunteers, but studio time
and production activities bring the cost of each “Mary’s Touch”
program to $1600 per show.
You can help. All money donated to
Mary’s Touch is used for “Mary’s Touch” programs. Because we are a
501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, your donations are tax deductible.
If you make your donation of $1600 to honor a friend or loved one,
we will mention your dedication on the show. Additionally, you will
receive a CD of the program in which your loved one is mentioned.
What a fitting way to honor someone for the gifts they have given
you!
Whether you can give a little or a
lot, please consider helping Mary’s Touch with your donation today.
We have so many beautiful stories to share…and we know they make a
difference in people’s lives.
You can donate online at:
www.marystouch.org
by clicking the Make a Donation
link, or you can send your donations to us at:
Mary's Touch
P.O. Box 341991
Austin, TX

We thank you for your generosity.
Please know that we keep you and your loved one in our prayers.
